Ib review

Sorry for not posting as much as I used to. The reason is that I've been busy with school and homework and after school activities so I didn't have enough time to write posts. It's finally the holidays so I can finally post something. And since the Mad Father review got such a good response, why not do a review of my first and favourite RPG game, Ib, or Eve, as some people call it.

Ib is a game about a girl who goes to an art gallery with her parents but somehow end up in another world. There, she meets Garry, a man from the gallery, and Mary, a blonde girl. You play as Ib and you try to get back to your world.

Okay. Since this is a review, there are going to be spoilers so don't put me down by being the first person to ever comment but it's you complaining that I spoilt the game for you. Also, this is also with my review of the latest update, Ib 1.04. I'll put a download link at the end if you're interested.

Anyway, I played Ib 1 year ago but I replayed it recently because of the newest update. There are two new endings which involve you playing as Mary, which is something you couldn't do in the previous version. My favourite character was always Garry and Ib was okay but you couldn't really HATE Mary since she WAS just a little girl that wanted to get out of her world. If you saw my Comic Fiesta 2012 review, you would know that I spent a LOT of money on Garry merchandise. I still have ALL of them, by the way. OKAY, to the review!

Overall, I really liked the story and the game play. The characters were very interesting and they did a GREAT job in making the other world very spooky. The main reason I prefer Ib over Witch's House, Mad Father, the crooked man, Misao, Yume Nikki and other RPG games(I've tried to play To The Moon but the trial ended before I could get far enough to do a full review or first impression) is that Ib isn't a horror game that is filled with jumpscares or horror moments(not saying that the other games are but you have to admit. Witch's House had a story line but was mainly just jumpscares.) but was a game with a story that just had a great creepy feel and nice endings. This is the only RPG game with a girl as the main character that had a true ending that WASN'T a bad ending.

I liked all the paintings in the art gallery. My favourite paintings/sculptures were "Fleeting Thoughts on a Moonlit Night", "Truant Seconds Hand", "Queen of High Society", "Tryst After Death" and "Drinking in the Night". Most of the paintings I mentioned as my favourite art pieces are from the latest update but the paintings from the previous version are also very nice. My favourite ending is definitely "Promise of Reunion" but I don't like how the update didn't effect the ending at ALL. There's this whole new area, the dungeon, where you risk Garry being stuck in the other world forever, AGAIN, and the flow is off since the ending, Promise of Reunion is based of the handkerchief that Ib gives Garry after killing Mary. The flow would have been good if it ended right after that BUT there's now a whole new area and it doesn't affect the ending at ALL. I know I should be happy that they actually took their time to do a new area and 2 new endings but it just feels a bit, just a BIT, lazy. Just a little edit to the old endings and this game would be my favourite game to replay over and over for months, maybe even years!

Okay, you're here for a review and not a rant. Out of all the endings, I prefer "Promise of Reunion" because it's one of the happy endings. Second would have to be  either "Welcome to the World of Guertena" or "Together Forever." Welcome to The World of Guertena is one of the two new endings where Garry goes insane(from the doll room), Ib goes into depression and just wants to stay in the other world because she doesn't want to leave Garry behind, and Mary stays behind because she doesn't want to leave her best, first and only friend Ib behind. So, all the paintings gather in the doll room and they all live there forever, Happily Ever After(But Garry is insane/dead and Ib is dead.) The other new ending is called "The Demise of a Painting" which is where Mary leaves on her own but instead of getting to the real world, she is in a world that looks like the real world but is still part of Guertena's world as "he" scolds her for leaving by making the place pitch black, making her all alone and unable to return home. Just before the whole place goes black, she calls for help, begs for forgiveness, calls for Ib, then Garry, then finally, her father, Guertena. After that is just some endings where Ib is all alone cause she never returned to her world, or Garry AND Mary die but Ib escapes but sees a picture of a man sleeping(Garry) in the gallery.

The background music and OSTs are also very nice and there are a lot of extremely talented people that have actually given lyrics to some of the character's theme songs. For example, Mary's theme song has it's own lyric-ed version called Puppet while Garry's theme song is Fighting for You.

In a nutshell, Ib is a VERY good game. I might be using Italics for more of my posts cause it makes it look fancy~  : 9 I might edit this soon since it's very late and I just want to get this up before today ends. I give Ib a ranking of 9.8/10~ I have to go now. Gazel is talking to her boyfriend and I'm trying to get information about Miku-chan's wedding out of him. Bye~
